About Ro Counselling

Ro Counselling is led by Sophie Hertzum. I am a professionally qualified counsellor, and a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psycotherapy (BACP).
I offer both online sessions and work in-person in beautiful, tranquil locations: a private farm on the stunning Lizard peninsula and a cosy cabin in Penryn.
My Therapy Services
Being person-centred means I believe that you, the client, are the expert on your own life. I help by creating a therapeutic environment for you to explore what you would like to explore, listening deeply without judgement, to enable you to feel heard, accepted and understood.
I believe it's extremely important for counsellors to be safe and ethical. I have completed my Level 5 Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling, and also trained with the NHS in mental health services. I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate, which is designed for people working in sensitive roles with vulnerable groups like children or adults. I also completed further training in end of life counselling, bereavement, suicide prevention, self-harm awareness, and safeguarding.
Person-centred therapy is an evidence-based practice, meaning that it can be effective across a wide range of issues, and help create positive change for clients, in a safe and tangible way. I am a person who loves learning, and I have a deep interest in people in general but also in the areas that affect us most. I am trained in trauma-informed psychotherapy, and don't limit my work to any areas, but typically I work with trauma, stress, identity, relationships, health, anxiety, depression, ways of being, differing neurotypes/neurodivergence, healthcare inequality, generational trauma, plus all sorts of ways we can (understandably) find it difficult to thrive, living in our society as it is today.
Being person-centred means that planning the length and duration of your care is in your control. You might want weekly sessions at first, changing to fortnightly later on, and then pausing or ending according to what you need. My rate is £55 per 60 minute session, and I do have some spaces available at a lower rate of £40 per 60 minute session for those who need more affordable sessions, such as students, carers, and people with limited incomes for any reason. You are very welcome to ask me about these discounted rates.

The Lizard Penisula
Private Farm Walk and Talk Therapy
I offer outdoor counselling sessions, which can be "walk and talk" or more gentle wandering and sitting outside, depending on how you feel. These sessions take place on a private, beautiful farm near Kuggar, on the Lizard Peninsula, with 35 acres of meadow and woodland to explore. It's an opportunity to experience all the benefits of being immersed in nature throughout your counselling sessions.

Penryn
In Person
My counselling room in Penryn has been thoughtfully arranged to feel warm, peaceful and comfortable, offering a quiet space away from the demands of everyday life. I work in person in Penryn on Mondays.

At Home
Online Counselling
Online counselling provides convenient access to talking therapy support for clients who prefer or need to be at home or elsewhere for their counselling sessions.
